FVS contributes new evidence to review of SCC School Travel Policy
Family Voice Surrey welcomes the news that Surrey County Council propose to review the Home to School Travel and Transport Policy first published in February 2020 at the next meeting for All-Age Learning Decisions on 9th June. The council intends to clarify the arrangements it will make to support post 16 students from families on low income. FVS has asked the council to use this opportunity to review 3 other aspects of the new policy which we feel are confusing or inappropriate:
the requirement for post 19 students to produce evidence about their parents' availability to provide them with transport
the decision to remove the safeguard of a maximum journey time for students with SEND
the lack of transparency in the banding arrangements and straight-line distance measurements on which the council's parental mileage allowance scheme is based.
