If you want to share ideas, talk to other SEND Parents/carers or just see a different face then please get in touch and we will email you the link to join in. You are welcome to join in on any one, or all of them if you prefer, just simply email the coordinator responsible for that date and they will send you the zoom login details.

All our events listed below are free to FVS members unless otherwise stated. Plus our membership is free to join.

8th June - 22nd June (Tuesday 9.00am – 10.30am) 'Shine Women Empowerment/Self-Care Session'

FREE 6 week course (4th session)

Our Guildford coordinator, Nicole Farrell would like to invite you to a very empowering six weeks Shine course. On the course we will explore the topics:

· Worth - The importance of self-care. You are valuable.

· Strength - Resilience, Boundaries, Respect.

· Purpose - Confidence, Releasing your potential and dreams.

This past year the Covid Pandemic has been a very challenging time for all of us, but especially for those mums who have children with additional needs. We all need a little 'me' time and a place to rediscover ourselves again and remind ourselves how important we are.

Please come and join us. The course is FREE to members of Family Voice Surrey.

9th June (Wednesday 11.00am) 'School anxiety chat'

Do you have a child or young person who struggles with attending school or college? If so you may like to join our friendly support group.

There is a WhatsApp group for day to day chat and we also have regular Zoom catch ups - currently the second Wednesday of each month at 11am.

Laura Kerbey, founder of Positive Autism Support and Training will be joining us to talk about 'Education Other Than at School ' - EOTAS

10th June (Thursday 12.00) 'What’s next when school is finished?'

We have the privilege of hosting an event with the founder and CEO of Sans Soucie Home Care, Padner Kupakuwana.

Sans Soucie Home Care provide supported living, activities and even help young adults leaving school/home to get into a work placement.

We will also have an amazing lady called Ginny Willis, who is an Independent Transition Consultant who helps our young people offering advocacy and help with transitions usually from Year 9 onwards and into adulthood. Anyone can join the session, but if you are thinking about the next stage and would like more info on life after school, then this session is for you particularly if your child is in year 9 and above.

11th June (Friday 12.30pm) 'General Chat'

Claire, the FVS coordinator for Epsom and Ewell, will be hosting a Zoom coffee and general chat session. This is an opportunity to share with us what is going well and what is not going so well for you and your family and to connect with other parent carers.

We are very welcoming so do join us, even if just for 10 minutes

17th June (Thursday 11.00am) 'Downs Syndrome Parent Carer Group'

Nicole, the Guildford Coordinator for Family Voice Surrey would love you to come and join our group this month if you have a child with Downs Syndrome. Her eldest and only daughter was born with Downs Syndrome almost 16 years ago now. She also has three boys, so life is full, but good. Come and do life with them and meet some great friends. It’s always great to do this journey with other parents on the same road as yourself. Nicole is looking forward to meeting you.

21st June (Monday 6.30pm) '16+ Group'

You’re invited to join a monthly online FVS 16+ support group. Come along to chat with other parent carers of young people with additional needs, exchange tips and advice, and hear from expert speakers. Each month we have a different topic - the focus for June is transitions to adulthood. Paul Baker, Transition Service Development Manager for the Surrey Transition Team, is joining us to talk about the team’s work supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities aged between 14 and 25.

28th June (Monday 10.00am) 'Q&A with Cerebra – Services, Sleep, Legal and more'

Join Emily, our Runnymede Coordinator for a Q&A session with Kaileigh and Derek from Cerebra. Cerebra is the national charity dedicated to helping families with children with brain conditions discover a better life together. Through their research they offer solutions and advice to help these children and their families enjoy lives full of hope and discovery.

Kaileigh will be guiding you through the services that Cerebra can offer to families with children aged 16 and under. She is also Cerebra’s Sleep Practitioner.

Derek is Cerebra’s Senior Legal Development Officer and will be on hand to answer any legal questions you may have.

28th June (Monday 11.00am) 'Is your child with SEND age 13 – 25?'

Is your child with SEND age 13 – 25?

If so, please come and join, Eamonn Gilbert Assistant Director SEND & LAC Commissioning, and Steve Hook Assistant Director for Learning Disabilities, Autism and Transition and Hannah Futter Programme Manager - Preparing for Adulthood on Monday 28th June at 11.00am via Zoom. Steve, Eamonn and Hannah are leading Surrey’s Preparing for Adulthood Transformation Programme for young people with additional needs and their families. The ambition of the programme is for young people aged 14 – 25 to be supported safely, legally, effectively and with a focus on developing independence and preparing for adulthood. The programme will focus on supporting young people to become resilient and independent to lead fulfilling lives in their own communities, thinking about the young person’s needs across their whole life course.

At the meeting Hannah, Eamonn and Steve would like to talk about the programme, ask for parent carer views and answer any questions. The FVS co-hosts for this event are Gretta Schifano, Tandridge Coordinator, and Leanne Henderson, Participation Manager.

1st July (Thursday 12.00pm) 'Talk by Louise Cheetham of Network Interventions and the Bridge Flexi School'

We would like to invite you to a conversation with Louise Cheetham the Co-founder of the Bridge Flexi School and Founder of Network Interventions.

Louise was a part of the Team who developed and rolled out the country’s first intensive behavioural early intervention programme. Louise has continually taken part in clinical research, leading and piloting her own research in recent years. Louise is an expert in her field of the Autism Spectrum and conditions, brain injury and specific learning difficulties. It will be chance for her to talk about her work, but also for you to bring your questions on anything that you might be struggling with at the moment.

5th July (Monday 10.00am) 'Talk by Soli Lazarus, founder Yellow Sun ADHD Hub'

Soli is an experienced teacher and SENCO. She has an adult son with ADHD so she understands what it is like to live with the daily struggle and knows what works. Join our webinar to hear Soli offer advice and practical ideas for parent carers to address the challenges and help their children make progress and thrive thereby creating a happy, calm family life.

Soli is also the author of two books, the latest being a children’s picture book “ADHD is our Superpower: the amazing talents and skills of children with ADHD” launched in May.

13th July (Tuesday 10.30am) 'PDA Talk'

How can I support a child with PDA at home and school? Join Clare Truman of Spectrum Space, a teacher and researcher specialising in autism. She provides distance learning packages for students with PDA who find it difficult to access school. Clare is also currently completing a PhD at the Centre for Research in Autism and Education at UCL. Her research compares the educational experiences of autistic children with and without a diagnosis of Pathological Demand Avoidance. Additionally, Clare is the older sister of an autistic young man.
