If you want to share ideas, talk to other SEND Parents/carers or just see a different face then please get in touch and we will email you the link to join in. You are welcome to join in on any one, or all of them if you prefer, just simply email the coordinator responsible for that date and they will send you the zoom login details.

All our events listed below are free to FVS members unless otherwise stated. Plus our membership is free to join.

APRIL


7th April & 14th April (Wednesday 10.0am - noon) 'Supporting Children with ADHD'

(during Easter term break)


This 2 part course, taught via zoom by a trained Occupational Psychologist, will help parents and carers understand how to support a child with a diagnosis of ADHD, or parents who suspect their child may have ADHD.


Topics include:

  • What is ADHD?

  • What things might a child with ADHD find difficult?

  • How can I support a child with ADHD at home and at school

  • Where to go for further help and information.

8th April (Thursday 10.30am) 'Support group for Families who's children have Down's'

Nicole Farrell, our Guildford Coordinator will run a monthly coffee morning on the 2nd Thursday of each month for Families who have children with Down's.

Claire, Family Voice Surrey coordinator for Epsom and Ewell will be hosting a Zoom coffee and chat. This ’coffee and chat’ session is a free opportunity for any Family Voice Surrey parent carer to share what is going well and not so well with Family Voice and connect with other parent carers.

16th April (Friday 12 noon) 'Positive Autistic Identity'

We are hosting a talk by Dr Chloe Farahar: (Aucademy; So You’re Autistic; Lecturer)

The talk will be on Fostering a positive Autistic identity for wellbeing

(Autistic identity, culture, community, and space for wellbeing)

In this talk Dr Chloe Farahar, an Autistic academic, discusses the importance of moving away from a pathologised, medical “culture of autism” to the positive Autistic identity found via Autistic culture.

26th April (Monday 6.30pm - 8.00pm) 'Wellbeing strategies for parents of 16-25 year-olds'

Calling Surrey parents of 16-25 year-olds!

You’re invited to join a monthly online FVS 16+ group. Come along to chat with other parent carers of young people with additional needs, exchange tips and advice, and hear from expert speakers. Each month we’ll have a different topic. We hope that you can join us.

27th April (Tuesday 10.30am) '0-4 Support Group'

Family Voice, Surrey’s Parent Carer Forum will be holding free a Zoom event for parent carers who have children aged between 0 – 4. The group is for families who have a child with any disability or additional needs either diagnosed or undiagnosed. This week we will be joined by Home Start East Surrey Team.

30th April (Friday 12 noon) ''Autistic Well Being"

We are hosting another talk by Dr Chloe Farahar: (Aucademy; So, You’re Autistic; Lecturer)

This talk will be on Why Autistic people need Autistic identity, culture, community, and space for better mental wellbeing.

In this one-hour session Dr Chloe Farahar critically discusses the evidence for the use of CBT with Autistic people, and asks attendees to consider the wellbeing of Autistic people, and not how to change Autistic experience.
