FVS at Action for Carers Events

To celebrate Carers Rights Week, Action for Carers organised a series of fayres across Surrey as a chance to raise awareness of unpaid carers and their rights to receive support.

Family Voice Surrey took part to all four events and had a stall manned by two members of our staff. They were available to answer questions about the carers role and provide a sign posting service, advice and information.

On Wednesday 24th November the ‘Action for Carers’ fayre started off at the Leatherhead Theatre. Lara (FVS Spelthorne Coordinator) and Nicole (FVS Guildford Coordinator) were in attendance and were busy talking to parent carers and providing information on the SEND journey.

This was a wonderful opportunity to network with Families, Parent Carers and other SEND organisations.

On Thursday 25th November the event took place at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill. Lara (FVS Spelthorne Coordinator) and Nicole (FVS Guildford Coordinator) were in attendance. Again this was a great opportunity to reach out to more families, talk to new members who wanted to join the charity and to chat with other SEND Families in Surrey.

Lara and Nicole met Cllr. Jill Bray, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, who was also in attendance on the day.

The next event was on Friday 26th November at the Christchurch in Woking. Di (FVS Woking Coordinator) and Lara (FVS Spelthorne Coordinator) manned the stall at this event.

More information was provided to parent-carers and plans for future cooperation with other exhibitors were discussed. For example, Surrey Police were happy to consider events where they can meet SEND families and explore what they can do to help.

Di and Lara met with Cllr. Saj Hussain, Deputy Mayor of Woking, at this event and had a chance to talk with him about local issues.

The final event was on Saturday 27th November and took place in Guildford where Sara (FVS Waverley Coordinator) and Nicole (FVS Guildford Coordinator) were in attendance.

This event was a great opportunity to meet fellow organisations who work in support of carers and support the families of SEND children and young adults.

Sara and Nicole met with Cllr. Mrs Marsha Moseley, Mayor of Guildford and were able to inform her about Family Voice Surrey and our offering.

We hope to see more of you soon as other events open up.
